Noise Filters

Electrical noise can enter a device through its power lines just as easily as through its signal cables. To reduce this problem, engineers often recommend adding several components to the power input circuit to block unwanted noise and prevent it from spreading throughout the system.

The recommended circuits can look quite complicated, especially to beginners. They may contain multiple capacitors, inductors, and other filtering components working together to reduce noise.

Fortunately, there is a much simpler solution: a noise filter.

A noise filter combines many of these components into a single package. Instead of designing and assembling the filter circuit yourself, you can often install a ready-made noise filter and achieve the same result with much less effort.

In many cases, the complex circuit shown in design guides is already built inside the filter. Simply connecting the filter to the power input can significantly reduce electrical noise entering or leaving the equipment.

Because they are easy to use and highly effective, noise filters are commonly found in industrial equipment, control panels, power supplies, and many other electronic systems.
